Legal research has historically been expensive and inaccessible to those without institutional access to services like Westlaw or LexisNexis.
We believe that access to the law should not be a privilege. Every New Jersey resident, student, paralegal, journalist, and small business owner deserves the ability to research the laws that govern their lives without a subscription fee.
JerseyLaw.ai is free to use. If advertising is enabled in the future, placements are restricted to the end of substantive original guide and insight pages; ads do not appear in search results or on raw primary-law document pages. Our search tools are designed to help readers locate relevant documents, not to replace review of those documents.

Harvard Caselaw Access Project (CAP) — Sunset
·Historical ReferenceThe Harvard Law School Caselaw Access Project (CAP) previously offered a free API providing access to 6.5 million U.S. court decisions. The CAP API and search tool were sunset on September 5, 2024 as part of a full public data release. The bulk data remains available for download at case.law but the API is no longer operational. JerseyLaw.ai uses CourtListener as the primary source for NJ and federal case law.

Update Frequency
JerseyLaw.ai uses scheduled ingestion runs to check selected sources and update the searchable library. Timing, coverage, and source availability can vary, so a library record is not a substitute for confirming the current official text. The update process may:
- Check public CourtListener records for newly available opinions from selected New Jersey and federal courts;
- Check selected New Jersey statutory, regulatory, and court-rule sources for changes;
- Update or add records when a source can be retrieved and processed successfully; and
- Record operational status for internal review.
The NJ Constitution and US Constitution are static documents that are updated only when new amendments are ratified.
